It is always our intention to keep school open as far as is reasonably possible.

Unfortunately, achieving required staffing levels by 9.00 a.m. is always a concern and is a major reason for school closures throughout the country.

If traffic disruption is the issue, a full closure of school is not necessary. However, it is likely we will delay school’s official start, allowing for staggered arrival at any point up to a given time eg 10am.

This means that school will still open at 8.45am, for those who are able to arrive as normal, but staggered arrival between 9am and 10am is not considered ‘late’.

Only in severe circumstances would we delay the complete opening of school and request for all children to arrive later.

In the event of snow and the likelihood of disruption, we will text all parents before 8.15 a.m. to advise that school is either:

  • Closed (in the case of severe snow)

or

  • Has a delayed start time (to allow for staggered arrival up to a given time eg 10am)

If no text, assume school is open.

Please Note:

  • If you use the Teachers2Parents app to receive texts, please ensure you have notifications turned on, or check it manually on ‘snowy days’.
  • We will NOT be using the local radio services to advise of a closure or delayed opening.

We hope this approach is helpful to parents and staff alike!
